Branches and Versions

There are two separate branches of Iotellect and derived product versions:

  • Production branch. Versions released within this branch should be normally used for commercial deployments. No new features are added to the Production branch so each of its releases is a bugfix release. We recommend that you update Iotellect to the latest version of production branch whenever possible.

  • Early Access Program (EAP) branch. Versions of this branch contain all new features just added by the development team. However, EAP versions may contain bugs and it’s not guaranteed that every next version of the EAP branch will be more stable than the previous version. This is normally the case before an EAP branch becomes a Production branch (the so-called “feature freeze” period when no more new features are added to the EAP and every next release is a bugfix release).

Using versions of an EAP branch is only recommended for partners that require new features of a specific EAP branch and expect the EAP to become a Production before their project is completed.

Version Naming

Iotellect version number has the following structure: A.BC.DD

A is incremented upon a Major Release that happens once per 6-12 months

B is incremented upon a Minor Release that happens once per 2-6 months

C is incremented upon a Bugfix Release that happens:

  • if a Minor Release goes into production and

  • if serious bugs are corrected in a production release

DD is incremented upon a Minor Bugfix Release that happens once some bugfixes of features should be delivered to an Iotellect installation that's in the progress of deployment
