Getting Started

SCADA/HMI applications in Iotellect SCADA/HMI are created and configured using standard Iotellect platform tools, starting from any of several entry points.

The following sections describe the available starting points for creating a SCADA/HMI application. For detailed information about managing application resources and lifecycle operations, see Managing Applications.

Configuration using platform tools

Working with platform tools directly gives full control over the application structure and its resources.

Platform-based configuration can be started from different entry points:

  • From the Administration screen, by selecting Create from the Applications node in the System Tree.

  • From the Application screen, by creating a new Application.

  • From the Control Center screen, by selecting Create in the Applications area.

The Control Center is the default start page of Iotellect SCADA/HMI. It provides quick access to available Applications, shared assets, server management actions, documentation links, online resources, and account settings.

These entry points use the same underlying platform capabilities. They differ mainly in where the user starts the configuration workflow.

When creating an application, specify its Name and Description; the application appears in the system right away, ready for resources to be added.

Users work directly with platform components such as devices, variables, bindings, dashboards, alerts, reports, scripts, etc.

Generating the Digital Twin Hierarchy

An application needs a structure of modeled objects to hold its process values: Digital Twin models and the containers for their instances, with the tags defined in those models. Iotellect SCADA/HMI can generate this structure from a description of the object types instead of building it object by object.

Start the generation from the Generate Hierarchy link in the Connect area of the Application screen, or from the SCADA/HMI - Hierarchy Generation item in the context menu of the Models node in the System Tree.

Full Application Development Process

For a comprehensive platform-native workflow, refer to Application Development Process. It describes the broader process of planning, configuring, developing, deploying, and maintaining a solution on top of the Iotellect platform. This reference is useful when the SCADA/HMI application is part of a larger product, solution, or deployment process that includes architecture planning, environments, source control, integrations, security, deployment, and monitoring.

Application Management and Updates

After an application is created, either using the wizard or using platform tools, it can be modified and maintained using the same Iotellect platform tools.

Typical maintenance tasks include updating HMIs, alerts, reports, scripts, device configurations, data bindings, and application resources.

See Managing Applications for details on application lifecycle, updates, deployment, and rollback. The Architecture article explains the conceptual relationship between traditional SCADA projects and Iotellect applications.
